Contemporary

Dumpling overdosed locals got more than a little excited when Ashfield scored this bright cafe on the corner of Queen and Anderson streets (formerly Excelsior and Jones streets). One year on, the popularity hasn’t waned, particularly among devotees of the irresistible stubby cheeseburger with grass-fed angus beef and melted gruyere cheese. It’s brekkie until noon and lunch thereafter, but a hangover-curing jumble of fried potato, house-smoked salmon, buckwheat and herbs topped with a poached egg is on both menus. A peanut, choc-chip and sultana ball or a sweet butterscotch milkshake brings out the inner kid and keeps locals hooked.
