Fitzrovia

Modern Australian$$

A classy fitout employing hanging plants and wooden crates of vibrant produce leaves diners in little doubt Fitzrovia is serious about its farm-to-fork ethos. In the front window, sangers piled with brisket and mayo mustard, or house-smoked salmon and capers work their siren call on passersby. Behind the cafe's light-filled lower level is a moodier mezzanine with a stylish kitchen passing out new takes on old favourites: think grilled asparagus and poached egg with a dry cured bacon 'crumble', or herby coconut chicken salad with spicy nuoc cham. Coffee, like service and cuisine, is a cut above. Cheap eaters note: brekkie and lunch only to stay on budget here.
