New wine bar Bacaro opens at Italian and Sons in Braddon

Natasha Rudra

Italian and Sons have opened a new wine bar in the space at the back of their Braddon restaurant. It's called Bacaro and it will be a spot for a quick meal or a glass of wine while waiting for dinner in the restaurant. It'll seat 50 and has a fireplace to keep things cosy in the coming winter. The bar itself features Italian marble. The menu has shared plates and a couple of daily dishes such as a house-made pasta and pizza. There'll also be house-cured meats and regional Italian cheeses, including goats cheese from Lombardy and sheep's milk cheese from Sardegna. The rest of the menu includes "wood fired 'erbazzone' (spinach pie) with bitter greens, egg and ricotta, fried Yass Valley rabbit with rosemary, semolina and white carrot and the oxtail ragu alla vaccinara & semolina gnocco romano". The project has been in the works since last year, when Pasquale Trimboli told us he wanted a casual but sleek space where diners could get a drink while waiting for a table or share an easy dinner or snack before heading out for the night. Bacaro will be open from Monday to Saturday from 5pm at the rear of Italian and Sons on Lonsdale Street in Braddon.
