Can this really be hotel dining? You might need to pinch yourself at meal's end. Settle into banquette or club chair seating or for more casual dining, the deck outside. An effort is made to source as much produce as possible from within 100 kilometres. Oysters, by nature of their seasonality are an exception; shucked to order and prepared several ways. Entrees include share plates; an excellent chicken and green onion gyoza with tangy yuzu dressing, scallops, delicately hickory-smoked atop a bed of vivid pea-green puree. Carrot and coriander croquettes are crisp but under-seasoned although a very good smoked honey and lime aioli perk them up. Mains include slow-cooked dishes such as a masterstock-braised pork that falls apart at a fork prod. Desserts are reinterpreted favourites; a raspberry parfait with berries and white chocolate, light and indulgent. Food with finesse make Motion worth considering as a restaurant in a hotel rather than a hotel restaurant.
