Celebrated chef and Good Food recipe writer Danielle Alvarez recently stepped down from her role as head chef at popular Paddington restaurant, Fred's, leaving fans of her food wondering where she'd cook next.

It's a long way from Paddington, but you'll find Alvarez at King Island's Kittawa Lodge in August.

In her first culinary collaboration since her departure from the Merivale hospitality group, Alvarez will be cooking private dinners for guests of Kittawa's two luxurious lodges.

The secluded, off-grid lodges on the Tasmanian island seem like a natural fit for the chef: Their architectural design aims to foster a connection between the guests and their rugged, coastal environment in much the same way Alvarez's cooking has historically been rooted in a connection between farm and table.

The hatted chef will share her knowledge of seasonal produce over three nights, in intimate dinners designed for groups of two to four people.

It's only a 10-day gig, with just six three-night packages on offer, so you'll need to be quick to catch her culinary encore.

Alvarez served her last dish at Fred's on May 15, saying she planned to "take some time away from the front line to focus more on the creative aspects" of her career.

"As with all creations there must come a time where the baton is passed on to the next person to lead a new chapter," she said of her decision.

"Without a doubt, developing Fred's with [Merivale chief executive officer Justin Hemmes] … and then bringing it to life, has been the greatest and most satisfying achievement of my professional career."
