An expansive new dining precinct will open at Circular Quay in March, boasting more than 20 restaurants, bars and cafes from star Sydney chefs including Federico Zanellato (Lumi), Morgan McGlone (ex-Belles Hot Chicken) and Joel Best (Besuto Omakase).

The eateries will be constructed as part of the $2.2 billion Sydney Place development on George Street and three dedicated "eat streets" will be located in the laneways beneath the recently completed Salesforce Tower. At 55 storeys, it became the city's tallest office building when construction was completed last week.

The first, Underwood Street, will be home to Best's newest venture: Bar Besuto, an intimate whisky bar inspired by the Shibuya "Scramble" in Tokyo, where locals-only bars are hidden beneath pedestrian-only backstreets.

"The design will resemble traditional bars in Tokyo that are basement level and often hard to find unless you know a patron of the venue, with a hidden dining room behind the bar," Best says.

"[It] will be focused on delivering an unparalleled Japanese whiskey and sake experience with over 100 Japanese whiskeys, many rare and cask only.

"The sake list will be strong and unique and match the food offering."

Bar Besuto will be the sister venue to Besuto, Best's 18-course omakase in Loftus Lane.

The second laneway, Rugby Place, will act as the thoroughfare connecting Sydney Place to Pitt Street, offering four quality takeaway options. This is where Zanellato plans to open a second location for his popular Surry Hills pastry shop, Lode Pies.

French rotisserie chicken restaurant, Sunday at Potts Point by chef McGlone, will also open its second outpost on Rugby Place.

They are joined by Malay Chinese Noodle Bar and Kosta's Sandwiches. Chefs Benjamin Tekalis (ex-LABLD and Beejays), Lachlan Copeland (ex-Hubert) and Cameron Harris (ex-Cornersmith) gained a loyal following after opening Kosta's first "no bulls---" canteen next to a smash repair workshop in Rockdale in October 2021.

For their newest venture, Tekalis has announced Nathan Brindle will be coming on as head chef. Brindle is currently a chef at two-hatted Chippendale restaurant Ester.

"But we're just going to continue what we're doing at Rockdale, we don't want to overcomplicate things," says Tekalis.

"I think we're definitely good for the precinct, we'll add a bit of diversity. Bring a bit of Rockdale to the city."

Crane Lane rounds out the offering with all-day dining options from BoBo Dumplings, Toastiesmith, Open Sesame Middle Eastern Concept, Burger Point, Sushi Yuzen, Dopa, C0 Gelato and Yasaka Ramen.

Restaurateur Maurice Terzini (Icebergs Dining Room and Bar) previously announced he was part of a winning bid by DTL Entertainment to transform Sydney Place's Jackson on George venue into a three-level hospitality hub, with a sophisticated pub, restaurant, wine bar and rooftop terrace.

"Securing our retail line-up brings us one step closer to seeing the Sydney Place precinct come to life," Marnie Devereaux, Leadlease head of retail development says.
