Italian

There's always a bit of a party vibe at this perpetually popular seaside branch of Carlton's DOC. The place gets utterly thronged, especially on weekends, when service might suffer. It's loud with chatter and Italian banter and the thwacking of pizza dough that emerges, crisp and bubbling, topped with combinations such as sausage, creamed broccoli and mozzarella or porcini with truffle oil. The salads (radicchio, cos, fig panforte and vincotto) are thrilling and memorable, while a simple panino with egg, wilted spinach and fontina makes for a breezy brunch option. Sumptuous antipasto comes direct from the on-site deli.
