Contemporary

Grub's gleaming 1965 Airstream trailer serves the grub in sunny months, and in the cold months the cafe sets up inside a converted industrial building in this Fitzroy back street. Its big enough for a ping-pong table, has a retractable roof, a mix of retro garden furniture and enviable garden boxes. The menu changes with the seasons: you might find herbed mushrooms and Yarra Valley Persian feta on sourdough; smoked trout, a smashed egg and creme fraiche on dense pumpernickel; or even a sauteed leek, minted peas and gorgonzola piadina. There's a sharp bar menu and a smart drinks list to trip through, too.
