Hunky Dory

Not every fish and chip shop lets you get a crisp white with your crisp whiting, but then again, Hunky Dory isn't your average fish and chipper. At the flagship Port Melbourne store, the fitout sparkles with bright white stools and a cushy banquette. Glistening fish and tempting prawns are displayed proudly on platters, and all the fish is filleted in-house. There are plenty of classic golden fried options or go for the gorgeous grilled fillets, marinated in tangy chermoula on nutty brown rice. Calamari is superb, twirls of totally tender, lightly charred squid. When pumping, orders can take a while but the atmosphere on a Friday night is electric. Also South Melbourne & South Yarra.
