Ici never loses its appeal. The tiny cafe is abuzz on sunny days, with outdoor tables snapped up fast, and through winter the room brings cosseting warmth. With a dark-wood bar, scratched and chipped over time, and mismatched wooden chairs, it has a lived-in feel that supports a comforting, broad menu. You might find sweetcorn pancakes with eggplant, or scrambled tofu with rice and pickled ginger for breakfast, backed up with generous lunch offerings: perhaps a reuben sandwich, fat with pastrami and sauerkraut, or lentil and beetroot salad. Coffee is either single origin or a house blend, and the bomboloni are winners.
