Journal Cafe

Italian

Journal may be a big girly swot- filled with studious types sipping wine and poring over City Library borrowings- but she sure is stylish. Lights (or are they bookshelves?) hang above twin communal tables, while leather and marble continues the deluxe-study decor. Food is similarly restrained: tuna salad with white beans, celery and capers is satisfying, lifted by its lemony dressing; and vibrant green spanakopita comes with a sprightly salad. Those in the know begin at breakfast, when assured staff deliver good coffee, and the toasted sandwiches- perhaps filled with provolone and mortadella- taste even better with a good book.
