Japanese

Kappaya positively glows - and not just from the multitude of lamps lighting this tiny pocket of the convent. Warmth comes from sweet-natured (although busy) staff and their wholefoods take on authentic Japanese dishes. Breakfast might be umami-rich white miso soup plus salad and brown rice balls - try fillings of cooked salmon or the inspired duo of walnuts and sweet miso. Rice balls also star in the pick-and-mix lunchtime bento boxes that fly out the door: add squares of toothsome tofu 'quiche' or crunchy-fried veg. Takeaway is popular, but lucky diners-in get cute convent-made crockery - and the chance to order seconds.
