Fresh and local is the ethos here - and it doesn't get more local than the gluten-free muesli coming from Balaclava's Mad About Muesli or meats sourced from an Elwood butcher. Staff weave between tables spread over two narrow shopfronts and in a rear courtyard, balancing plates piled high with dishes such as home-made pumpkin and polenta bread buried under baked beans and capped with a poached egg. Buttermilk pancakes and French toast can be matched with one of four toppings (including banana, strawberries, pistachio ricotta and maple). If you have room, lemon drizzle cake makes for a zesty finish.
