Italian$$$

A makeover a couple of years ago has drawn big crowds back to the Royal Saxon, lured, perhaps, by the possibility of spotting an off-leash AFL player. The space, all glossy wood, glass and exposed brickwork, is light and bright, with a generous paved courtyard and an upper level where DJs crank it up. There are about 12 beers on tap, ranging from bog standard to boutique, all dispensed by staff who genuinely seem to enjoy their work. The wine list has a fondness for the Italians and there's a snappy range of cocktails that lean towards the thirst-quenching. The Italian-focused food is a highlight.
