The Orchard

European$$

Behind Toorak Station in a cute row of shops is this small eatery with big ambitions where seasonality and quality produce are the watchwords. Dinner busts the budget, so go for brekkie or lunch. Risotto is cooked with care: a mushroom and pea version has appealingly chewy grains and vivid, fresh vegies. Comfort food, such as a tender minute steak, is simply presented with rocket salad, slender French fries and bearnaise sauce. Desserts (think pear and ginger tart) are delicious, but pricey. Cakes such as moist hummingbird are a less expensive option.
