Tyranny of Distance

Contemporary$$

A one-time petrol station, this quirky cafe just off Chapel Street has a madcap garden-shed vibe, with mismatched furniture, plants sprouting from rusty barrels, and towering installations of gas bottles and heaters. Flatbreads form the basis of most breakfast and lunch offerings, perhaps teamed with chilli scrambled eggs or cast-iron pans of shakshouka. A short black, made using a bespoke blend from Roastcraft coffee, is served shorter than most, bringing vibrant citrus notes to centre stage. Bloody marys make for boozy weekend brunches; in the afternoon, it's Aperol and tapas.
