Modern Australian

As the Astor Cinema, and later the Valhalla, this 1930s art deco building was almost a sacred site for Glebe locals, playing a vital role in the social life of the area. It still does, but instead of a big screen romance, it's all about coffee love. This warm, woody, cosy spot is chock-full of cheerful, chatty locals catching up over Tea Craft teas and good, strong Campos coffee ($3.50) with high notes of cocoa and hazelnuts. The piled-high salads and all-day breakfasts are star attractions. Haloumi stack with poached eggs, roast tomato and pesto; and brushetta with tomato and feta, we're talking about you.
