They're a jolly bunch at Josh's, something of a Berrima landmark with its curious blackboard messages (Scintillate. Enchant. Unless), maybe a chair hanging by the door (literally suspended on a wall) and waiters who like to sing along to the greatest hits soundtrack playing inside. Take refuge from Berrima's bustle of antiqueries, rustic-chic jam jar purveyors and imported souvenir soap shops for a yummy Mod-Med accented menu, and a little bit of fun, thanks to Josh Levings's easy way with approachable flavours. Spicy mushrooms and a nicely dressed salad hint at simple cumin notes. Zucchini flowers stuffed with goat's cheese and pine nuts ping with pepper. Confit duck flakes away as it ought to and karniyarnik - which rolls off the seasoned waiters' tongues as if to the Ottoman manner born - is a glorious mess of spiced mince, eggplant and melted sheep's cheese. A tarte fine of fig celebrates the season with great pastry and sweet fruit. Baked to order, of course.
