Goonellabah Tavern

13/20

Contemporary

The Blue Ginger Chinese Thai Malay restaurant makes this hilltop tavern feel more like a club than a pub, but the food is better than club standard. The vegetarian spring rolls were crunchy and more-ish, the green curried chicken creamy with plenty of green vegetables, and the beef in black bean sauce full of flavour with lean, tender beef, whole black beans and more vegetables. Picture windows draw the gaze away from the big-screen TV to the surrounding trees. If you'd prefer something more conventional, there's also Lucky's Aussie Kitchen, with grub from as little as $3 for a prawn and chicken roll. Note: Blue Ginger closed Tues, Lucky's closed Wed nights and Sun.
