Haemil

Korean$$

While the room is deliberately cool, all spare art and black furniture with a view of the Cahill Expressway, things warm up when owner Joshua Kwak presents a spicy bibimbap and then helpfully stirs it all together for you. Kwak is a chatty, warm presence also known to tickle the ivories on the baby grand in the middle of the room, but there's warmth, too, in the house speciality of spicy baby octopus stir-fried with onion and served on a sizzling plate, and the kimchi is suitably tongue tingling. In the hotter weather the outdoor area is a popular lunchtime spot for surrounding office workers keen to partake of Kwak's earthy and reliable food.
