You are greeted by a designer-clad maitre d' and waiters in white jackets and bow ties, but that's just the tip of the Icebergs. While service can under-deliver, the real attraction is that breathtaking outlook onto Bondi beach. With the waves crashing below, it's hard to resist the call of the ocean, so it's just as well there are freshly opened oysters, hand-gathered scallops and a changing menu of market-fresh fish. Seafood tartare is dramatically mixed at the table, sprinkled with baby shiso leaves, ginger and bonito jelly. Sea urchin pasta is coated with a gutsy, briny, creamy sauce, while Ancona-style fish stew comes with a deeply flavoured seafood broth. But it's not just the seafood that delivers. There is a serious menu of aged beef from every pedigree, served with quirky, three-flavoured onion rings or roasted bone marrow. And really giving the view a run for its money is a mascarpone-vanilla and raspberry tart, served with a grappa-laced raspberry and rosewater consomme and crunchy chocolate pearls.
