Everything that Daylesford is famous for is here in one luxurious location. Lake House's spa, hotel and restaurant all celebrate the picturesque region and its verdant produce. In the restaurant, glassware twinkles on crisp double-dressed tables. Cushions are propped along the window banquette - behind which sit giant bunches of flowers and pretty Lake Daylesford. The kitchen turns boutique ingredients into exquisite-looking, highly worked dishes. Three discs of smoky Skipton eel, skirted with pancetta, on individual beds of beetroot remoulade come on a long white plate scattered with petals, daubed with mustard creme fraiche, dotted with basil oil and painted with a streak of beetroot glaze. Every plate is picture-perfect, whether a main of delicately sweet Dory fillets with sheer 'scales' of locally grown baby zucchini, or a wild 'textures of chocolate' dessert. With eight-course tasting menu options (including vegetarian), be-suited service and a thick wine list, Lake House is so much more than a meal; it's an occasion.
