Lat-Dior

African

An offshoot of Newtown's Kilimanjaro (now closed), Lat-Dior offers a more relaxed dining experience, with dishes served in traditional wooden bowls. The menu skips around the continent from the beef varenga of Madagascar to a Moroccan lamb tajine, perfect to scoop up with the crepe-like, turmeric-scented flatbreads. The sossou gorgiguan tuna curry from Senegal has a pleasant tamarind-induced sourness, but would benefit from a more neutrally flavoured fish. The vegetable fataya, however, is a winner - a sort of African somosa filled with a spiced lentil mixture. Colourfully dressed waiters are happy to talk you through the more unfamiliar menu items, though they can become a touch frazzled as the small restaurant fills up.
