Outpost Cafe

This was once part of the St Ali empire, but new owners are brewing Axil coffee in a mighty La Marzocco espresso machine. They deliver a sharp, bitter espresso ($3), a silky latte and seasonal single origins. The fitout at this outpost, which is tucked down a side street by South Yarra station, balances homely and starkly industrial, while the cafe-style menu might include salmon with grilled asparagus and truffled mascarpone or spicy lentil fritters. It's very flash, there's a cute courtyard, but service may flag at busy times.
