Pondok

Indonesian$$

The service is sweet at this breezy little eatery, though not quite as sweet as the fresh house-made avocado juice. It’s got enough sugar to make Wonka gasp, but is surprisingly refreshing and a helpful counter to the saltiness of a boisterous plate of green beans, chicken mince, dried shrimp and belachan sauce. Fresh chilli slivers add bang to an otherwise pedestrian dish of sambal goreng sapi (postage stamp-sized bits of beef and potatoes in a zippy gravy), while pempek (a baked spud-looking egg yolk-centred fish cake) is on a whole other level of amazement.
