Purple Peanuts

Japanese

On arrival at this exuberantly eclectic Japanese cafe, there's often a queue out the door. Don't worry- staff are ready to take your order faster than you can decide. The glass counter is filled with sashimi and brown or white handrolls, made throughout the day. There's made-here miso soup, a mellow broth full of chunky vegetables, sticky teriyaki chicken cooked on the grill, curries served with a lush deposit of rice, tofu burgers in Turkish bread, and deep-fried (pretty oily) tuna or veg onigiri (rice balls). Beyond the savouries try the rich flourless chocolate cake or uzu and passionfruit macarons.
