Fresh: What's good at the farmers' markets

Kate Archdeacon

Ginger oil Ginger-infused olive oil releases its aroma most strongly with a little heat – try it splashed over freshly cooked seafood. Pick some up from Selba Farm at Eltham Farmers' Market.

Summer veg Peninsula Fresh Organics has been harvesting summer parsnips since December. The roots are filled out and firm, perfect for slicing thinly into parsnip chips. Look for the stall at Boroondara, Coburg and Eltham markets.

Tomato season Roma tomatoes from Gippsland are ripening nicely now, going through the stages from salad-ready to passata-worthy over the course of a week. Stock up from Thriving Foods Farm at Coburg, Warragul and Alphington markets.

Accredited farmers' markets Saturday, February 16: Boroondara (Hawthorn), Carlton, Coburg, Echuca, Euroa Village, Gasworks (Albert Park), Riddells Creek, Warragul, Wodonga Junction. Sunday, February 17: Alphington, Daylesford Sunday, Eltham, Flemington, South Geelong.
