Australia's in the midst of a retro food revival, if the most Googled recipes of 2017 are anything to go by. It seems we save our adventurous side for eating out, with comforting '80s dishes with faintly exotic names making a big comeback. And not a poke bowl in sight.

It's a slightly different story, however, when it comes to asking old mate Google a food question. "What is...?" uncovered slightly more exotic ingredients including kimchi, fennel, lentils, eggplant, and, err, salmon.

What are we most curious to learn how to cook? Tofu comes out tops, followed by eggplant, pasta, rice, smoked cod and silverside. Quite the smorgasbord.
