Still Water Japanese

12/20

Japanese$$

Boy does this place buzz. Bifold doors open to busy Duporth Avenue ensuring a certain amount of traffic noise but don't let this deter you because the food will have you forgetting the location in no time. Perch at the sushi bar and be wooed by chefs' knife skills. The preference here is for cold water fish, which the believe have a better taste and texture than their salt water cousins. Chefs' sushi platter offers an excellent selection of this Japanese staple as well as sushi rolls and nigiri with local Mooloolaba prawns. Gyoza filled with moist, ginger-laced pork in thin pastry are pan-fried to crisp on their derrieres. Seafood and vegetable tempura finds, okra, beans, eggplant, mushroom, squid, whiting, and prawns cocooned inside light tempura while puffed dorayaki (pancakes) are branded in character with the name of their maker and served with azuki ice-cream.
