This stalwart is as much a part of the Parra landscape as the weekend tides of yellow and blue jumpers. One taste of the mee siam (a weekends-only dish) and you’ll understand why: fat, juicy prawns partying in tamarind-bursting gravy with fried beancurd, shallots and lime. Spring rolls snub any thought of a ho-hum cabbage-based filling and are packed with only glossy minced pork instead. The main dining room with its kitschy tourism posters has barely changed since opening 22 years ago and hopefully never will. Likewise, the beef rendang will hopefully never stop being as fork-tender and life-affirmingly spice-laden.
