The Grillhouse teams big city steakhouse quality with friendly country service and equally friendly country prices. Located within the Riverina Hotel, its dining room has been extensively renovated, giving it a smart but comfortable feel. Seared scallops on cauliflower puree and a smoked trout and prawn salad might miss the mark, but really, it's all about the meat. Good double lamb chops, served medium rare, come with kipfler spuds and a smooth pea and mint puree, while a huge slab of twice-cooked pork belly with cherry tomatoes and fennel puree has the requisite crisp skin. The kitchen is not afraid to serve steak very rare when asked, and it certainly would be a crime to overcook the aged 800-gram rib-eye steak, which arrives smoky from the grill. Team it with beer-battered chips or potatoes cooked in duck fat, if you dare - remember, you've still got the doughnuts with hot chocolate topping to come.
