The Standard Hotel

Pub dining$$

Hank Williams keeps watch over Fitzroy locals and lifers in this pub's toasty front bar, and young upstarts from nearby share-houses chow down in its huge courtyard. The menu, too, provides space for both old-timers and newbies. There's fancier fare, like a special of kingfish with scallops, kipfler potatoes and beurre blanc, but the Standard's real strengths lie in, well, the standards. Fat sausages on mash, towering burgers with great drifts of thick-cut chips and colossal steak sangers. And if the extensive drinks list doesn't keep you occupied, there's live music twice a week- country and western.
