Like Grand Final seats or tickets to a megaband arena spectacular, dining here does not come cheap. Take a deep breath and spend up to experience something special - the theatre and luxury of this restaurant 55 floors above the city. Vue reflects global trends, but with a Melbourne edge. It's fun, too, as chefs present dishes filled with boomer nostalgia, like Cona-brewed pumpkin 'cuppa soup', or musk stick and lamington petits fours. At its best, Vue's food can be sublime, witty, theatrical, decadent and utterly delicious, as in buttery marron tail, or 'eggs on toast' (duck yolk, celeriac puree, gorgeous onion and thyme sauce, truffles), and ethereal tonka bean souffle. Attention to detail is phenomenal, from 100-year-old Grange vines as rests for the Christofle cutlery to bespoke cheese trolleys, kangaroo-hide tables and rare teas. Some bookings are set-length, and best avoided for the full experience, while lack of a printed menu can make tracking costs tricky, but these are quibbles. For a big night out, there's nothing like it.
