Watermoon

Japanese$$

Sydney has gone izakaya-mad, and why not? It's a great way to eat just about anything Japanese, it's very conducive to having a drink and it's perfectly affordable. Watermoon offers multi-level, dimly lit izakaya dining that skips through most of the Japanese repertoire, over teriyaki and tempura and through soba and sushi. Early birds (before 7pm) can go for a table-covering deluxe dinner special that could have a sizeable wagyu burger under a sticky demi-glace as well as sashimi, miso soup and a scoop of cold (mashed) potato salad. Staff are as keen as mustard - or should that be wasabi?
