Modern Australian$$

Though established way back in 1859, this old vineyard isn't showing her age, with modern lofty glass walls, sculptural water features and padded black seating spaced to hold groups of all sizes. She's had a lot of work done, and the decorative turns feature on dishes, too, especially entrees like wagyu beef tataki with its parmesan tuile, and the dessert assiette, with ribbons of chocolate twisting above treats like green-tea and lychee dacquoise. For mains, however, the kitchen has toned down the ornamentation, leaving diners with wonderfully uncluttered flavours, such as rich red tuna with perfectly seared edges, comfortably sharing the wide plate with a line of smoked eel nori rolls. Japanese influence is well utilised here, especially in summer, but tender eye fillet with a molasses-like jus and horseradish remoulade proves Yering Station cuts it in any season. Although welcoming, service can have lapses, but what's the hurry when views are this good?
