Shortly after tomorrow's Anzac Day dawn service, Daniel Drakopoulos will open the doors on what he says will be a first for the Sydney CBD: "We're the only cafe to serve directly onto Martin Place."

Drakopoulos says of his Caffeine Cartel start-up. "We're about 30 metres from the cenotaph, so we'll be respectful during the service, we won't even have a light on," he explains.

How did Caffeine Cartel get such prime real estate on Martin Place? It commandeered unused lobby space in one of the precinct's buildings, placing it front and centre on some of Sydney's most prized real estate.

If Drakopoulos' name sounds familiar, his father is industry heavyweight Bill Drakopoulos, whose restaurant reach extends from Ripples to Ormeggio at The Spit and LuMi. "I grew up in Dad's business, my sister is also looking at opening something in Petersham," Daniel says.

Caffeine Cartel's customers won't survive on its Little Marionette coffee alone, there's a small but clever food menu coming out of its kitchen. It also has eat-in option, with 20 seats inside.

Open Mon-Fri 7am-4pm

32 Martin Place, Sydney
